Mansplaining: The Musical
OneFest, Space Arts Centre
"It’s hugely daring to write a one-scene musical, but Carter manages it admirably, capturing the tone and style of the 1930s song and dance show, while taking the leading lady – played with verve and charm by Stephanie Ware – on an engaging emotional journey.."
The Reviews Hub
"Mike Carter’s writing gives the character wit, humour and strength... Its message is bolstered by comedic songs and musical numbers, imbuing the whole proceedings with pageantry, flash and fun. Overall, Mansplaining: The Musical is a defiant, charming and entertaining piece full of real character and old-school Broadway flair"

Mighty Oak Conqueror,
OneFest, Space Arts Centre
"Tom Blyth gave a terrific performance, somewhat in the Leonard Rossiter vein...
and allowed us to have a lot of fun with some excellent comic writing. His predicament
was expertly written and performed, with laugh-aloud aperçus throughout.
The play ended on a big laugh, which swept us out into the night on a tide of good humour."
Spy in the Stalls
"Mike Carter’s writing cleverly and skillfully captures the constantly over-intellectualizing and self-sabotaging nature of a man desperate to receive some kind of respect from anybody, even himself"

Bollocks!
OneFest, Space Arts Centre
"Although Bollocks! also touches on grief, it is more an exploration of identity than it is an unhappy piece. Danny (Paul Thomas) revisits the past in a rambling, drunken conversation with a friend who isn't there anymore, finally making good on an old promise.
Thomas bounds about the stage, pausing every so often as a memory catches up with his character and his eyes threaten to mist over.
As you would expect from Mike Carter, the dialogue is well written and very natural.
Director Saffron Myers captures both the comedy and the tragedy of Carter's script."
